Breast Cancer Awareness PDF Print E-mail

The national philanthropy of Delta Gamma Pi is Breast Cancer Awareness.  This disease effects women and men from all backgrounds and is becoming more and more commonplace.  Look at the following statistics to see:

  • Every three minutes a woman in the United States is diagnosed with breast cancer. In 2006, an estimated 212,920 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to be diagnosed, along with 61,980 new cases of non-invasive breast cancer. And 40,970 women are expected to die in 2006 from this disease.
  • Breast cancer is the leading cancer among white and African American women. African American women are more likely to die from this disease.
  • Breast cancer incidence in women has increased from 1 in 20 in 1960 to 1 in 8 today.

The exact cause of breast cancer is not known nor is there a cure.  However, 85% of those who have the cancer detected early do survive.  Which is why it is important to both raise money for research and increase education about the importance of early detection.

Delta Gamma Pi willingly supports and works in conjunction with various non-profit and for profit organizations that contribute to the promotion of breast cancer awareness.
